Mouse Deer and Crocodile

One day, Mouse Deer went down to the river to take a drink. But he knew that the crocodile might be waiting underwater to eat him, so he said out loud.

“I wonder if the water’s warm. I’ll put in my leg and find out.”
Of course Mouse Deer didn’t put in his leg. He picked up a stick instead and put one end into the water. Chomp…! Crocodile grabbed the stick and pulled it underwater. Mouse Deer laughed.
“Ha… ha…ha… Stupid crocodile! Cant you tell the difference between a stick and a leg?” Crocodile was very angry because the Mouse Deer had insulted him.
“aaarrrgghhhhh… I’ll eat you now!” Crocodile was out from water and tried to catch Mouse Deer but he couldn’t do that.

Bahasa Inggris termasuk golongan bahasa yang dikenal sebagai golongan bahasa India-Eropa (the Indo-European Group).
Golongan bahasa ini berasal dari India Utara antara benua Eropa dan Asia. Suku bangsa yang berbahasa ini berpindah tempat ke seluruh pelosok benua eropa dan India sudah beribu-ribu tahun lamanya. Bahasa itu dalam sifatnya yang sebenarnya mengalami perubahan radikal sehingga hampir tak mungkin kita mempercayai bahwa bahasa Inggris berkaitan erat dengan bahasa Prancis dan bahasa Jerman. Akan tetapi itulah fakta bahwa hal ini memang demikian.
